Our Equipment:
Over time our small collection of camera bodies and lenses grew. It started off with a dusty Canon T70 and various lenses we found as a pack at a local flea market. All cameras have some different ways of using them. Different levels of automation and ways of handling it in every-day use. That always makes chosing a body to take out with an interesting experience.
Currently in use are:
- Canon T70 (Auto-Exposure, FD-Mount)
- Canon FTb QL (Fully Manual, FD-Mount)
- Nikon FG-20 (Family Gift, Beeper, F-Mount)
- Nikon F-801 (Auto-Focus & Auto-Exposure, F-Mount)
Why we shoot on Film:
Aesthetic Quality
Film captures images with a unique, organic quality that many find aesthetically pleasing. The analog nature of film lends a warmth and depth to photographs and footage, often characterized by rich colors, fine grain, and a wide dynamic range.
Tangibility
Film is a physical medium, and the process of loading, winding, and developing film can be a tactile and immersive experience.
Slower Process
Shooting on film often necessitates a more deliberate and thoughtful approach. You need to carefully plan shots, making every frame count, as film stock is limited. This slower, more intentional process can lead to more considered work.
Creativity and Limitations
The constraints of film, including limited exposure latitude and the cost of each frame, can spark creativity. You may need to solve problems and make creative choices that you woul have never encountered in the seemingly limitless digital realm.
Unique Characteristics
Different film stocks offer unique characteristics, allowing artists to choose the one that best suits their creative vision. Whether it’s the grain of black and white film, the vividness of slide film, or the natural skin tones of a specific color film, film stocks offer a variety of options.
